Donna Kool, age 67, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and sportswoman, died Thursday, January 25, 2007, surrounded by family after a brief battle with colon cancer. Born in Virginia, she was raised in Albuquerque, and was a graduate of Valley High School and of the University of New Mexico with a degree in Physical Education and a letter in swimming. An Olympic-class swimmer, she taught swimming for many years. Donna lived with a great zest for life and touched the lives of many with her unrelenting pursuit of athletic and social activities. Donna was always on the go, and she defined the word extroverted. Donna was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband, Roland B. Kool, a prominent Albuquerque attorney; and in 2002 by her mother, Margaret Tyler. She will be missed by her many family members: daughter Karen Grending and husband Carl, of Albuquerque; son Kurt Kool and wife Ginger, of Farmington; son Keith Kool, of New York City; sister Lorraine Clark and husband Fred, of Vancouver, WA. Donna leaves behind her much loved grandsons, Carson Grending, Kaden Grending, and Roland J. Kool. She is also survived by her nieces, nephew, step-daughter, Leslie Souther, and her daughters Natasha, Katie, and Jessie. Donna's interests were many, including boating, water skiing, tennis, snow skiing, hiking, biking, traveling, and reading. She will be greatly missed by friends in Las Amapolas Garden Club, Amistad, Prime Time Gang, Junior League Sustainers, her investment group, EOA (she was Vice-President) and Sitzmarkers. She also found time to work part-time for the Department of Senior Affairs, and as a substitute teacher for APS. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper, NE. A Celebration of her Life will follow. The family wishes to thank all the compassionate and caring staff members at the Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice Center.
