Obituary for DAY

Thomas (Tom) Loyd Day, born February 26, 1926 in Bluewater Village, NM and died November 15, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Thomas and Sintha Jane Day; his first wife, Winona Belle Day; his brothers: Connie Day and Dean Day; his sisters: Edith Armer and Frieda Draper. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Day; his seven children and their families: Cheryl and Terry Huber, of Los Lunas, NM, Mike and Sue Day of Tucumcari, NM, Loyd and Kathy Day of Gallup, NM, Phylis Stowe of Albuquerque, NM, Sam and Dawn Day of Royal Oak, MI, Neil and Carla Day of Laramie, WY, Elaine and Harold Tibbetts of Albuquerque, NM; and brother, Frank Day of Mesa, AZ; as well as 19 grandchildren. In addition there were many young men that he mentored into adulthood including but not limited to, James Crawley and C W Warren, other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Tom lived and worked in Albuquerque most of his adult life, working in construction and truck driving. His love of children and baseball, he was one of the founders of the Mile-Hi Little League and Little League Strandale Park in the late 1950s. He was a resident of Deer Creek, near Payson, AZ for the last 22 years, moving to Albuquerque this past year, to be closer to family, due to failing health. He was a WWII veteran and will be interred at Santa Fe National Veteran's Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Ladera Nursing Home for their compassion and care during this difficult time. Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Peralta, NM on Monday, November 20, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.; Interment will follow on Tuesday afternoon at the Santa Fe National Veteran's Cemetery.
