Obituary for GUTIERREZ

Alice McGrath Gutierrez, 89, the grand matriarch of the Gutierrez family passed away November 6, 2006, after a long illness with cancer. She was born in Guadalupita, New Mexico to Alfredo and Tillie McGrath. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Ramon Gutierrez, three sisters, Cora Kaiser, Betty Gunderson, Lily Valdez; three brothers, Leo McGrath, Dave McGrath and Arthur McGrath. Survivors include two brothers, Al McGrath, Fred McGrath Jr.; two daughters, Tillie Porter and husband, John, Maryann Sheyka and husband, Michael; two sons, Ray Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez and wife, Sara. Other surviving relatives include ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The Gutierrez home in the North Valley was known as Alices Restaurant by all her friends and relatives. Alice insisted that all who entered the Gutierrez household must eat since there was always food on the stove. The family thanks all her friends and relatives who brought her cards and flowers during her illness. Services will be held at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Home, 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE, 87110 on Friday, November 10, 2006. Viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary. Burial will be on Saturday, November 11 with a funeral procession starting at Fitzgerald & Son and proceeding to Mount Calvary Cemetery on Edith NW starting at 10:00 a.m. preceded by additional viewing. Pallbearers will be Michael Sheyka, Scott Swallows, Rick Gutierrez, Joe Carrasco, Mark Pickle, and Reuben Archuleta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution Place NE, Suite 400, 87110. Alices kitchen is closed and a new one is open in Heaven.
