Obituary for MORALES

Ramona (Monchi) Valerio Morales, 70, a resident of Silver City, NM, entered eternal life to join her Lord on November 3, 2006 at Gila Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Morales was born April 6, 1936 in Santa Rita, NM to Juan and Maria (Alaniz) Valerio. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Morales was a woman of strong faith and served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. She also enjoyed camping with her family. She was a strong advocate for children and adults with disabilities. In the 1960s she was also a co-founder of the Special School for Special Children which expanded into Southwest Services for Handicapped Children and Adults (S.W.S.H.). Mrs. Morales worked for SWSH and served in many capacities within the organization including CEO until her retirement in 2000. She married her high school sweetheart Luis Morales and they had a strong, loving marriage and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Morales is survived by her husband, Luis Morales; daughters, Debi Washington and husband, Donald of Silver City, Cathy Morales of Albuquerque, Valerie Morales of Silver City, and Tessie Tanner of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Pamela Washington, Kelsey Washington, and Daezia Morales; sisters, Juanita Salas of Bayard, NM, Consuelo (Chelo) Salas and husband, Jose of Bayard, and Lorenza (Lencha) Salas and husband, Felix of Bayard; brothers-in-law, Frank and wife Anita of Rio Rico, AZ, Danny and wife, Irene of Riverside, CA, and David and wife, Delia of Showlow, AZ; sister-in-law, Rosie Lopez and husband, Paz of Hurley, NM, Josie Saenz and husband, Ralph of Las Cruces, NM, Socorro and husband, David of Bayard, NM, Dolores Jaramillo and husband, Horace of Santa Clara, NM, and Lora Morales of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lou; her parents, Maria and Juan Valerio; brothers, Anastacio, Francisco, Felipe, Roberto, and Rudy Valerio. Pallbearers will be Randy Arellano, Sam Arellano, Greg Morales, Jerry Salas, Jesus Saenz, and Charles Saenz. Honorary pallbearers are Patsy Sanchez, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 7, 2006 from 4 - 6 p.m. The Prayer Vigil will be Tuesday, November 7, 2006 beginning at 6 p.m. at Terrazas Funeral Chapels, with Deacon David Castanon reciting the Vigil Service and Holy Rosary. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday November 8, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Santa Clara Catholic Church with Father Robert Becerra officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cobre Special Olympics fund at Cobre Schools, P.O. Box 1000 Bayard, NM 88023.
