Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday October 25, 2006

George T. West, 82, broke his earthly bonds to touch the face of God, on October 20, 2006. He went peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Ocariz (Grace) West; six children, Georgia Babb and husband Kevin, Joseph West and wife Barbara, Laureen Marquez and husband Randy, Elizabeth Watrin, Christopher West and Robert West; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and sister; Sharon Ehlinger and husband Max. George was born in Chicago, IL, on March 28, 1924, and resided in Albuquerque for over 50 years. He was a graduate of De La Salle Institute. As a veteran in the US Army, he proudly served in WWII. George went on to a long and successful career as an Engineer for the US Postal Service. His hobbies included TV repair, bicycling, and walking. George was an avid sports enthusiast and a committed Norte Dame fan. Known for his jovial demeanor, keen sense of humor, and contagious smile, George brought life and laughter into the lives of all who were privileged to know him. As a father, he instilled integrity, a love of life, and a devotion to family. His faith in the Lord lets us picture him resurrected in Christ in a new, perfect body that again lets him sing, dance, and be the young man he felt like inside.
