Obituary for LOPEZ

Eleanor Kathleen Marron Lopez, a member of a pioneer New Mexico family, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday evening, October 13, 2006. She was born in Albuquerque on November 16, 1914. Her father, Owen N. Marron, a long-time attorney, was mayor of Albuquerque in 1900 and 1901 and the first State Treasurer in 1912. Her mother, Frances Halloran Marron, graduated from UNM in 1900 also the year she was married. Both her mother and her sister, Frances Marron Lee, were Regents of the University of New Mexico. Marron Hall at the University was named in honor of her mother. Her husband, J. Joseph Lopez, predeceased her in 2000. He was the first project manager of the Nevada Test Site and founder of the consulting electrical engineering firm, Uhl & Lopez Engineers, Inc. She is survived by their five children, Owen Lopez, a former attorney, John Lopez, also an electrical engineer, Kathy Bushnell, a nurse practitioner, Floyd Lopez, an attorney, and Timothy Lopez, a physician in Santa Fe. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Neuburger; eighteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She had an incredible zest for life, a sharp wit, and was an avid golfer for more than sixty years. She played bridge several times a week until very recently and was also an accomplished watercolor artist. A private service will be held, to be followed by a reception at the family home for all friends on Tuesday, October 17 at 1 o'clock p.m.
