Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday October 05, 2006

Dorothy Merlene (Bowman) Gilson, 73, passed away at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, TX on Sunday, October 1, 2006. She was born May 9, 1933, in American Falls, ID, to George D. Bowman and Uinta (Wheeler) Bowman. She grew up in American Falls where she met John F. Gilson, Jr. They were married on March 16, 1952. They spent the next forty-eight years following the mining industry from Idaho to Wyoming and then on to Montana, New Mexico, and Kentucky and finally back to New Mexico. They retired in Midland, TX in 2000 to be closer to family. No matter where Dorothy went she quickly made friends and always brightened the lives of those she came into contact with. She loved to share stories and pictures of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with everyone she met. She was always concerned with the welfare and happiness of others and, even through her illness, was more concerned with how veryone else was doing than she was with herself. She will be greatly missed. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her husband, John; her children, Doreen K. Rinehart and husband Gene of Southlake, TX and John F. Gilson III and his wife Sandy of Midland, TX; her sister, Helen Harris of OR; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel Fitzgerald and Son with Rev. Ken Moore officiating. A Graveside Service and interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers the families request that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Services are entrusted to Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE.
