Obituary for PELEGRINA

Ivan A. Pelegrina Sariego, M.D., born in Puerto Rico on December 26, 1922, the son of Angela Sariego and Miguel Pelegrina, M.D., passed away Monday, September 11, 2006, at The Cottages in Albuquerque. He is survived by his widow, Dr. Lydia Prado; his children, Alma and George Wilson, Jorge and Maridele Pelegrina, Ivan and Queta Pelegrina, all of PR; his stepchildren, Jose L. and Annie Mediavilla of PR, Marichu Mediavilla and Kellie Kovach of Dallas, Jose R. and Sarah Mediavilla of KCity, Rudy and Karen Mediavilla of Amarillo; his brother, Jorge and wife, Cheri Pelegrina, brother, Mario and wife, Nellie Pelegrina; sister, Edna Pelegrina all of PR; his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gladys Pelegrina and Carmen Casas; and many nieces and nephews. Dr. Pelegrina was a 27 year resident of Albuquerque. He was a wonderful husband and father who was a father figure and model to many medical students and residents in Puerto Rico, Michigan and New Mexico, he enjoyed golfing with them and with his young neighbors. Dr. Pelegrina was a captain in the military and a WWII and Korean veteran. He was a dedicated Wolverine fan. Dr. Pelegrina will be missed but not forgotten. He died in the compassionate care of the The Cottages, their excellent staff, and Ambercare Hospice. The family is indebted to his caring neighbors and friends, who helped us physically and emotionally, to his physicians, Dr. Paul Duncan and Dr. Malcolm Purdy and the staff of Hematology Oncology Associates for their long and loving care, and to Dr. Kathleen Blake, his cardiologist and friend. A Mass in celebration of his life will be said at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2006.
