John W. Wilson, 90, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 with his family by his side. John was born on March 11, 1916 to William (Pie) and Anna Norman Wilson. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1934. In the summers, during his school years and after he graduated he worked on the Bar 15 Cattle Ranch which was owned by his family and the Seis family. In 1943, during WWII, he left his life as a cowboy and went to work at Sandia Air Base as a mechanic repairing B-29's and other planes used in the war. Due to the fact that he had polio at the age of 6, he was not able to enlist in the military but was able to serve his country in another way. After the war ended, he went to work as an Automobile Mechanic for various local repair shops and retired from Eckerts Automobile in October of 1986. After officially retiring, he spent his time walking his dog "Patches" down to the park everyday to clean up the trash. He did this on his own until a neighbor called the city and they put him on their payroll until he was no longer physically capable of doing it any longer. His passions in life were first and foremost his family followed by many other interests which included baseball, fishing, gardening and crewing for the Cabaret and Enchanted Cuckoo Balloons which were owned by the Drollingers until he was in his 80s. He was a well respected, hard working man who taught his family and those around him, about the strength and importance of family and the benefits of hard work. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Albert and identical twin brother, James; two sisters, Marguerite and Caroline. He also lost his first wife, Peggy when she was just 35 and his second wife, Virginia who he was married to for 50 years. He is survived by his children, Nancy Glodek and husband, Ray of Albuquerque, Beverly Godwin and husband, Hayward of Goldsboro, NC, Cheryl Miller and husband, Bob of McMinnville, OR, Diane Arbuckle and husband, Steve of Albuquerque, John Wilson and wife, Bobbi of Albuquerque, and Susan May and husband, Kelly of Albuquerque; 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
