Obituary for C DE BACA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday August 12, 2006

Henrietta "Dai" C de Baca, 84, adored sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who traveled the world with her late husband, Col. Leo "Eeo" C de Baca, U.S.A.F. (Ret.), passed away late Tuesday, August 8, 2006. Influenced in her early twenties while interpreting for Eva Peron, Dai became a strong advocate for the rights of women and children. Upon her return to Albuquerque, she served on the boards of the Martineztown House of Neighborly Service, HELP, LULAC, the Albuquerque Assistance League, Church Women United, United Methodist Women, the seniors of El Buen Samaritano UMC, El Encanto, and many others. Her charitable work earned her many national and local awards. However, Dai's greatest joy was helping raise her grandchildren, Capt. Ryan T.B. McGuire, Rory L.P. McGuire, and Mindy R.M. McGuire. Dai's only great-grandchild, Allison Taylor McGuire, sustained Dai after she became a widow in 2001. Her only child, Marsha K.B. McGuire, wishes to thank the caring staffs of Casa de Palomas, Carefree Living, and Presbyterian Hospice Services for their devotion and compassion. Dai, a woman of great valor, also leaves behind an extended family and many friends, including Myriam Chavez, Naomi Pino, Celia Robledo, the Calderon Family, Aaron Friedman; and granddaughters-in-law, Jennifer and Jessica, all of whom she touched deeply. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret "Middy" Orozco of Ashfork, AZ. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 13, 2006, 4:00 p.m., at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 3905 Las Vegas Dr. SW with Rev. Lourdes Calderon officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Henrietta's name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York City, NY 10163. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE. 843-6333
