Obituary for BOYES

William E. (Bill) Boyes, 87, a resident of Cedar Crest, NM for 56 years, passed away Wednesday Aug 2, 2006 at his current home of 1620 Indian School Rd NE. He was born in Pueblo, Colorado Sept 8, 1918, and grew up in Pueblo and Colorado Springs. He was a graduate of Colorado College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In April of 1946, he joined Sandia National Laboratories as one of the first employees, where he worked for 36 years, retiring in February, 1983. At Sandia, he was instrumental in developing the reliability and quality control program. From 1962-1965 he took leave from Sandia to work for Bellcom in Washington DC, supporting NASA's Project Apollo, which put the first man on the moon. He served as president of the New Mexico Chapter of the American Society of Quality Control Engineers (ASQC). Bill coached little league baseball teams for many years and, in retirement, enjoyed many hobbies including working in his shop and darkroom. He is survived by Doris Ann Boyes, his wife of 57 years, four children and six grandchildren, including son John Dana and fianc Linda Robinson, his children Jesse of New York, NY, Alan of Honolulu, HI, and Elizabeth of Spokane, WA; son William K. and spouse Laura and their daughter Adrian of Durham, NC; son Lawrence D. of Seattle, WA, and daughter Margaret Spears of Fort Collins, CO and her children Megan of San Francisco, CA and Evan of Denver, CO. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Ruth Summers and two nieces, Susan and Lynn, and their families. Funeral service arrangements are pending.
