Obituary for ULIBARRI

Jose Ramon Ulibarri died on Friday, July 28, 2006 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Ann Ulibarri; and his five children, Mary Ellen Ulibarri of Albuquerque, Christopher Martin Ulibarri his wife, Robbin, of Washington State, Michael Joseph Ulibarri of Zurich, Switzerland, Mary Elizabeth Ulibarri- Pritchett and her husband, Mark of Albuquerque, and Mary Patricia Ulibarri and her husband, Milton Moreno of Albuquerque. He leaves behind six loving grandchildren, Stefanie, Gary, Sabrina, Michael, Samantha, and Sean, all of Albuquerque. He also leaves behind a sister, Consuelo Zierer and her family of Albuquerque. Fondly known as Joe, Jo Daddy, Grandpa, and Papa Yaya, Joe touched the lives of thousands as he lived out his career in Bi-lingual education and counseling in public schools from New Mexico to California. He helped countless individuals realize their dreams of higher education and stood as a pillar in the community for the support of multicultural education across the nation. In his retirement years, Joe continued to be a mentor to many as he followed his passion of the art of lapidary and volunteer taught classes at the Palo Duro Community Center. Originally of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Joe was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and received his advanced degrees from New Mexico Highlands University. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Rosary will be recited Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE. Jose will be buried with military honors at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
