Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday July 16, 2006

Arthur Deforest Wells, of Albuquerque, died June 6, 2006 at the age of 92. He was devoted to his family, conscientious at work, faithful to his church and friends, and loved to sing. Art was born September 13, 1913 in Kenesaw, NE, to Mabel Clare and Arthur C. Wells. He grew up on farms in Missouri and Kansas, and was president of his high school class in Ottowa, KS. He moved to Washington, D.C., to find a job in the government. There, he also found his future wife, Margaret Strait. After they were married, the Internal Revenue Service transferred the couple to Salina, KS, where they lived 18 years and raised their two daughters. In 1959, they moved to Albuquerque. Art completed his career in government service in the U.S. Forest Service, and retired in 1976. After retirement, Art indulged his passion for softball by playing in the city league until age 80. Music was his other passion; he sang in his church choir all his life. Art and Margaret were long term members of Los Altos Christian Church, 11900 Haines NE, where Art's Celebration of Life service will be held on July 23, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. Art's living family include daughters Jeannette Storrs with her husband, Charles D. Storrs, and Peggy Wells and her husband, Ronald Davis. He also has four grandchildren, Ty Storrs (Brooke), Tim Storrs (Lorrie), Terri Storrs and Kristin Tomany (Steve). There are four great-granddaughters. Margaret predeceased Art in 1989.
