Obituary for PETRONIS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday June 22, 2006

Beth Petronis. From her birth on July 31, 1949, in Atlantic City, NJ, to her death on June 16, 2006, Beth had a wonderful life and was blessed with caring family, friends, and pets. As the daughter of a hotel manager, she grew up sharing daily adventures with her beloved sister, Nancy, and dog, Lucky at the Emerald Beach Hotel in Nassau, Bahamas, and the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Later she majored in Biology at Gettysburg College, PA, where she met John Petronis. The two married on May 29, 1971 and settled in Albuquerque after falling in love with the city on a cross-country driving tour. Beth first worked for the University of New Mexico, where she also earned an MBA, and later worked for the Public Service Company of New Mexico. She and John founded Architectural Research Consultants in 1976, where Beth served as chief financial officer until her death. Beth was especially proud of her dearly loved children, daughter, Lexi; and son, John; both of Albuquerque. Beth found her passion in volunteering for animal rescue groups and private rescue operations, finding homes for strays, and helping reunite animals displaced by Hurricane Katrina with their owners. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy H. Keenan; and father, Wesler T. Keenan of West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, John P. Petronis; her children; her sister, Nancy K. Alcorn; her many cherished nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends, Susan C. Murphy and Lynne Page C. Rasmussen. "To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die." For Beth, those hearts include her friends and family and the many stray and abandoned animals she cared for over the years. A Memorial Celebration of Beth's life will be held Friday, June 23, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at Casa Rondena Winery, 733 Chavez Rd. NW. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the animal welfare organization of your choice. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
