Sofia Celia Atencio, 76, a seven generation New Mexican, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2006. Sofia was born August 14, 1929, the daughter of Epimenio and Aurora Allen Carreras of Hatch, NM. She had lived in San Jose, CA for forty years before moving to Rio Rancho. Sofia was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Danny, Louie, and Adolfo. She is survived by one daughter, Aurora Cain and her husband, Tim; and four sons, Claudio Atencio, Jr. and his wife, Irene, Robert Atencio, Anthony Atencio and his wife, Rosemary, and Eric Bello and his partner, Tom Behnke; eight brothers and sisters, Delmira, Orlinda, Helen, Flora, Kerry, Teddy, Sonny, and Anita; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2006 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, June 9, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
