Obituary for DE LA PORTE

Carl Eugene De La Porte, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away May 26, 2006. He was born October 31, 1924, and raised in Hannibal, MO. He joined the Navy at seventeen serving as a Master Carpenter aboard the USS Oberon. He also drove the landing craft in World War II in the South Pacific. After returning from the war, he worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant. In 1954 Carl moved with his family to Albuquerque to work at ACF and later was employed at GE as manager of Quality Control. He was honored by GE for perfect attendance for nineteen years. He was very active in his church serving in many areas as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, treasurer, and was active on the Church Board for many years. He was site manager for the new gym and was a superior carpenter, leaving a living legacy of his craftsmanship for the church and many friends. Carl was predeceased by his son, Terry De La Porte. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; daughters, Marca De La Porte and Kay Rayls and husband, Greg; his son, Jim and wife, Gai Gai Anderson. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Pam De La Porte; and his grandchildren, Kim Haight and husband, Mike; Dawn and husband, Blake Leath; Jason De La Porte, Amy Boles, Emilio, Elias and Esperanza Sandoval, Jeremy Rayls, Jameson, Evan, Titus, and Neema Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Terralyn Haight, Lauren Leath, and Kylar De La Porte; his sisters, Glenna Rothweiler and Virginia Davidson; and brother, Richard De La Porte; also many nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Services will be held Thursday, June 1, 2006, 10:00 a.m. at the Heights First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Friends may visit Wednesday, May 31, 2006 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heights First Church of the Nazarene, 8401 Paseo Del Norte NE or a charity of your choice. Gentle giant. Christ like life Talented hands.
