Gerald W. VanGundy, 97, died on Monday, May 15, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Betty. Mr. VanGundy is survived by his children, John and wife, Ginger; Frank and wife, Karla; and Helen Ferrel and husband, Don; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. VanGundy settled in Des Moines, NM in 1918 with his parents, Rev. J.W. and Golda VanGundy, as well as his siblings. Gerald was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, belonging to Temple Lodge No. 6 AF & AM and Ballut Abyad. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1972 after 19 years of service. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2006 in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust St. NE, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Paul Debenport officiating.
