HARRY Mayor Harry Kinney, age 81, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, May 9, 2006. Mr. Kinney is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Pamela Tillery-Kinney; daughter, Charlotte J. Kinney, husband, Bruce Weydemeyer, and granddaughter, Sydney Weydemeyer, of Santa Fe; son, Don Kinney, wife, Margaret of Leesburg, FL, and granddaughters, Leslie Kinney, of Kansas City, MO, Holly Bricken of Houston, TX, and Christine Olsen of California; step-son, Russell (Rusty) Mitchell II, wife, Nancy and grandsons, Duncan and Carter of Macon, GA; step-daughter, Nikki Mitchell and grandchildren, Taylor and Chase Holley of Rio Rancho; step-son, Thomas Roberts and wife, Leah Albers of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Margaret E. Roberts of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Shelley Roberts and husband, Duane Moore of Albuquerque; brother, Donald Kinney and wife, Joan of Annapolis, MD; nephews, Cris Kinney and wife, Cindy of Corrales, Patrick Kinney and wife, Jane of New York; Bill Kinney and wife, Kim of Pennsylvania; niece, Donna Kinney of North Carolina; and numerous great-nephews and -nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Opal Kinney; older brother, Earl Kinney, Jr.; wife, Allene Lowrey Kinney, and former wife, Carol Roberts Kinney. Harry worked at Sandia Laboratory for 17 years, but was always actively involved in politics. Beginning in 1957 he served as a member of the Bernalillo County Commission, and later was elected to the Albuquerque City Commission. He served as Mayor from 1974 to 1977 and again from 1981 to 1985, and ran for numerous other positions including State Land Commissioner and Governor. He was President Elect of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, but was unable to serve when he lost his position as mayor. Harry loved Albuquerque and New Mexico and was involved in numerous organizations throughout his life. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity at UNM and was a lifelong member of Rotary International. He remained close to friends from Raton, where he grew up, from his years at UNM, and to the hundreds of City employees he worked with over the years. A proud member of the US Navy, Harry served in the Korean War and remained active in the Naval Reserve. Harry was proud of initiating the International Balloon Fiesta, acquiring the Elena Gallegos land grant as open space, and for acquiring water rights to help assure adequate water for the city. Most of all, after his family, he loved the people of Albuquerque. A Service for family and close friends will be held at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Dr. NE, on Friday, May 12, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Rick Donaho and Ken Moore officiating. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Westside Chapel, Thursday 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Private burial Services will follow. A public Memorial Service will be held this summer to celebrate Harry's life and love of Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Harry E.
