Alice Bernadine Gittings was born on March 3, 1921 in Fort Worth, TX and passed away on April 2, 2006 after a short illness at Vista Care Hospice in Albuquerque, NM. Bernadine was originally from a farming family in central Texas. They moved to the San Fernando Valley in California where she met her late husband, Kent Gittings, in high school. Kent (who passed away in 2001) later became a WWII and Korean War Veteran. She traveled to be with him in post-war Germany. Later, the Air Force family was stationed in Alaska, Albuquerque, went back to Alaska and then Maine before the Gittings family finally settled for good again in Albuquerque in 1960. For many years, she enjoyed camping and fly-fishing in Colorado with her husband and two sons, Kent Jr. and Kirk. In later years she enjoyed gardening and visiting with her neighbors, Claudette Winburn and Ray Rayzak. She is survived by her two sons, Kent Gittings Jr. and his wife, Diane of Frederick, MD and Kirk Gittings and wife, Victoria Davidson of Albuquerque; her loving grandchildren, Gabriel Varela and his wife, Sara of Denver, CO, Erica Varela Gittings of Washington, DC; and granddaughter by marriage, Ashleigh Martin of Albuquerque. She will be missed by the grandchildren's mother, Frances Varela.
