Lala B. Meeks, 94, died peacefully after a short illness at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2006 at her home in Pajarito, NM. She was born March 18, 1912 in Albuquerque to Francesquita Chavez and Jacobo Barboa. She graduated from Albuquerque High School, was a riveter during WWII, 4-H leader in Bernalillo County for over 30 years and recognized as an honorary 4-H leader. Her husband, George W. of 42 years; her parents; a granddaughter, Leigh Barboa; and sister, Dora Martinez; brother, Saturnino Barboa, preceded her in death. Lala is survived by her children, Jake Barboa and wife, Marion, George Meeks, Kathy Meeks Duffy and husband, Joe, Nick Meeks and wife, Denise, Juanita Dunlap and husband, George; grandchildren, Arlette Reynolds, Lynette Barboa, Maria Babcock, Josh, Meghan, Ashlynn Meeks, Colton and Katie Dunlap; four great-grandchildren, Bailey, Laura Leigh, Jarred, Issac; her sister, Jennie Day and husband, Harrell; sister-in-law, Charlsie and husband, Charlie. Rosary and Funeral Services will be held at Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac Road SW. Rosary will be on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 7 p.m. (visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m.). Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2006. Pallbearers will be her beloved nephews: LeRoy Barboa, Artie Chavez, Charlie Barboa, Mel Sedillo, Paul Sedillo, and Gene Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Nino Barboa, Jr. and Larry Chavez. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bernalillo County 4-H Building Corporation, 1500 Menaul NW, Albuquerque, NM.
