Tony Biernacki On May 4, 2006, Anthony "Tony" Biernacki ended his battle with Alzheimer's and cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; father, Wallace; and infant sister, all of Pittsburgh PA. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; and four sons, Buzz and his wife, Kari, Steven and his wife, Janet, Robert and his wife, Susan, and Mark and his wife, Joelle. Tony is also survived by two brothers, Butch and his wife, Jean of Pittsburgh, PA, Gary and his wife, Lisa of Charlotte, NC, and by his aunt, Stella of Texas. Tony is survived by six grandchildren, Katie, Beau, Katherine, Eric, Olivia, Chris; and by many nieces and nephews. Ellen and Tony were married for over 50 years and he was devoted to his wife and family. Tony was born in Bethel Park PA on October 31, 1932, was a star football player in high school, and enlisted in the Air Force after graduation. During his career he earned a commission and retired as a highly decorated Major. He served as an Air Training Officer and the soccer coach for the first classes of the Air Force Academy. The remainder of his career he served as a navigator in high altitude reconnaissance aircraft. He served proudly for 20 years. After he retired he worked as a contractor and woodworker and was always available to help family and friends with their projects. Even though he fought with Alzheimer's for the last 15 years, he thoroughly loved spending time with family, friends, and traveling. He enjoyed watching all sports especially soccer and the Pittsburgh Steelers. His kindness and love will be missed by many. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. A Rosary will be held at Sunrise Mortuary, located at 7601 Wyoming NE, at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday May, 7, 2006. The Funeral and Mass will be Monday May 8, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, located at 7701 Wyoming NE.
