Obituary for KAVELMAN

Jack Clayton Kavelman, 79, an Albuquerque resident since 1968, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2006 at University Hospital with his loving son, Kim, by his side. His death was a result of a tragic car accident. He was born on April 28, 1927 in Detroit, MI to Clayton and Beatrice Kavelman. Jack grew up in Michigan until at age 17 when he enlisted in the Navy during WWII and saw combat in the Pacific campaign. He was able to travel all over the world in the service of his country. Jack had various jobs and trades and retired from UNM where he had served as an electrician for over 20 years. He enjoyed hiking in the mountains, classical and big band era music, reading, and history. Preceding his death, he had been working passionately on his family history. Jack was an active member of the Haines Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in the genealogy library. He was active in helping many people retrieve their family records. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Virginia and Shirley. Jack is survived by his sons, Mark and wife, Esperanza of El Paso, TX and Kim and wife, Carmen of Albuquerque, NM; grandsons, David, Zachary, and Daniel; daughter, Kathy Winward and husband, Curt of Lehi, UT and grandsons, McKenzie, Jory, Christian, Hunter, and Sawyer; former wife, Ardith of American Fork, UT; brother, Tom Archibald and wife, Marge of Sterling Heights, MI; and sister, Barbara Munster and husband, Gregg of Bend, OR. Services will be held Friday, May 5, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5709 Haines Ave. NE. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Friends may visit at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Services.
