Berniece Shaffer Nottingham passed on to her eternal reward on Friday, April 14, 2006, at her apartment in Camino Retirement Center, where she lived for four years. She is survived by her Albuquerque family: daughter, Nancy Smith and devoted son-in-law, Mel Smith; grandchildren, Tina (Mark) Diltz, Jason Smith and Neal (Heather) Smith; and her beloved 'Greats' Aidian Benjamin, Joshua, Korrie, Lauren, Melanie, Nathaniel, and Rebekah; daughter, Linnea Nottingham of Augusta, ME; sister, Esther Lee of Ridgeville, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Bea was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was born on January 8, 1913, in Greene County, IN, to Francis W. and Hazel A. (Lester) Shaffer, the middle of three sisters. Bea graduated from Eaton High School, Eaton, IN, in 1932, and married Vint R. Nottingham, on April 24, 1936, in Hartford City, IN, where they were very active members of the First Christian Church. She resided there until 1978 when she relocated to Albuquerque, NM after her mother passed away. Bea was a very talented seamstress, dressmaker and tailor, and worked in clothing shops until she was 79 years old. She continued doing alterations until just a few months ago. Bea was preceded in death by her husband on April 17, 1967; her parents and her older sister and best friend, Hulda Tapy, in 2005. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, 2:00 p.m., at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she was a member for 28 years, with Dr. Roy Elmore and Dr. Terry Anderson, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution NE, 87112. Interment will take place later at the Gardens of Memory, Muncie, IN, beside her husband. We invite you to celebrate her death by remembering her life, not by mourning her passing.
