Estelle Barbara Chodor The life of Estelle Barbara Chodor Osborne -- devoted mother of Evan, David and Jason, mother-in-law of Toyoko, brother of Allan, medical physicist, physician's assistant, Ben & Jerry's lover, ice skater, emergency medical technician, whale watcher, microbiology researcher, onetime yoga and transcendental meditation aficionado, courageous fighter against cancer for over 20 years, gourmet and gourmand, detective fiction lover, OK-maybe-a-little-more-often-than-we-would-have-preferred solitaire player, runner first and walker later on, restaurant owner, skier going back to when all the skis were made from trees, traveler to Europe back when no one did that, achiever of a Master's Degree back when few women did that, Amway vendor, tournament poker player and occasional tournament winner, waitress, walker to the curb, coffee expert, severe-burn therapist at John Sealy Hospital, programmer for the space-shuttle program, programming teacher, fond lifter of the occasional glass of wine as it was always 5:00 somewhere, real-estate agent, adorer of Weymar and Victoria, and tolerator of far too much nonsense from those who loved her -- came to a peaceful end on Saturday, April 15, 2006. Estelle Osborne was born on August 21, 1936 in Chicago to Morris Akeba Chodor and Gladys Rosenberg Chodor, and went on to live an unassumingly revolutionary life. She married Weymar Zack Osborne on December 18, 1959, and remained married for 22 years thereafter. Her companion in recent years was Frank Maginnis. She is survived by son, Evan Woodman Osborne; daughter-in-law, Toyoko Miwa Osborne; and grandchildren, Weymar Chiune Miwa Osborne and Victoria Serena Miwa Osborne, all of Yellow Springs, OH; by sons, David Matthew Osborne of Pampa, TX and Jason Andrew Osborne of Raleigh, NC; and by brother, Allan Benjamin Chodor of Agoura Hills, CA. She was far more influential on far more people than she ever knew and will be missed by all of us who treasured her. The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society or Presbyterian Hospice, and would like to thank both Presbyterian Hospice and FootPrints Home Care for the extraordinary care and assistance they provided in her last days. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Vista Verde Mortuary, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho.
