Obituary for MICKELSON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday April 22, 2006

Ann Mickelson, age 69, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2006, after courageously battling cancer for the last three years, succumbing to complications after a valiant struggle. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Roger; daughter, Kimberley and her husband, Frank Lathers of Chicago; and daughter, Pamme and her husband, Steve Windhager of Dripping Spring, TX; and Texas granddaughters, Shanna Rae Dawson and Caitlin Ivy Orr. Also surviving are her aunt, Jean Fisher of Albuquerque; and her brother, Dan Nachel, his wife Bev, and their daughter, Becky Olsen and her family, all of Brookings, OR. Ann was a graduate of Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD, and matriculated at Augustana College and the University of North Dakota, where she was active as an officer of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She cheerfully moved a total of 28 times during her married life, mostly to accompany her Army husband and to properly raise their children. She chose Albuquerque as their retirement location, discovering and approving the purchase of their house on the internet eight years ago. Her strong will, indomitable spirit, and selfless nature set examples for her family, friends, neighbors, and associates, emphasizing service and fundamental core values throughout her life. A private Service will be held, and plans are that she will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family requests that her friends contribute to the cancer research organization of their choice. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
