Obituary for FAIRBANKS

Sophia Merciline (Warren) Fairbanks, age 92 peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006 in Albuquerque. She was born on November 1, 1913 to Franklin and Merciline (Louzon) Warren in White Earth, MN. During the early years of Sophia's life she received a license in Cosmetology and operated her own salon in Ruidoso, NM. Sophia and her husband Melvin raised six boys on five different Indian reservations in three different states while serving the tribes through the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She was enrolled in the White Earth Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Sophia retired to Albuquerque in 1975 from Zuni, NM and was the last of twelve siblings. She is survived by her five sons: Lowell Fairbanks and his wife, Cheryl of Cedar Crest, NM; Earl Fairbanks and his wife, Jeanette of Lakewood, CO.; Michael Fairbanks and his wife, Jesusita of Edgewood, NM; Richard Fairbanks and his wife, Teresa of Albuquerque, NM and Don Fairbanks of Albuquerque, NM. Sophia is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Fairbanks; her son, Ronald James Fairbanks; one granddaughter, Lisa Fairbanks; two grandsons, Christopher and Peter Fairbanks; and one great-grandson, Angel Fairbanks. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, April 19, 2006, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 20, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Joseph's Mission (Rehabilitation Project), Mescalero, NM 88340.
