Obituary for BROWNE

Lt. Col. Lewis C. L. Browne, USAF (Ret.), born January 11, 1926, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in El Paso, Texas to Col. Lewis E. J. Browne, U.S. Army (Ret.) and Jean L. Browne. Lewis graduated in 1949 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was a proud career Air Force Officer. In addition to numerous assignments in Europe and the United States, Lewis was a member of the original faculty at the Air Force Academy at Lowery AFB and Colorado Springs. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1970, Lewis was an instructor in the Civil Engineering Department at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM for 10 years. Lewis was a man of intelligence, honor and loyalty. He had many friends both civilian and military. His classmates from West Point remained life-long friends. During his retirement years, Lewis was an active member of numerous Masonic organizations. He will truly be missed by those who were fortunate enough to hear his stories and get his wit. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 48 years, Jane I. Browne. He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen M. Peterson and husband, Mark, and Jeb Browne and husband, Martin C. Patterson; two grandsons; and two great grand children; brothers, James H. Browne and Dr. John T. Browne and their wives, children and grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private memorial service and burial at a later date at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO.
