Irene Ong Do Padilla, 90, was carried away by angels on Friday April 7, 2006. Irene, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, was born on February 17, 1916, the daughter of Lucy Sanchez and James Ong Do. In June of 1941, Irene married Raymond Padilla, and to that union eight children were born. With her vibrant exuberance for life, this loving and devoted mother raised eight children on a family farm while also tending to a goat, a cow, chickens, turkeys, and ducks. When Raymond decided to open his own appliance repair business, Irene became office manager and bookkeeper, never neglecting the care and nurturing of her children or the farm. Irene was a devout member of the Catholic Church and along with Raymond was active in the Church's marriage enrichment program. She is now in the presence of those who preceded her in death: her parents; beloved husband of 50 years, Raymond Padilla; and a younger sister, Lucy Stephens. Irene is survived by her sister, Mary Gonzales; her daughters, Theresa Clark and husband, Dennis, Joanne Elfers, Clara Padilla-Silver and husband, Neil, Barbara Padilla, Lucy Martinez and husband, Ron; and sons, Gilbert Padilla and wife, Margie, Arthur Padilla, David Padilla and wife, Shelley; grandchildren: Cindy, Holly, Debbie, Dominic, Treena, Dennis Jr., Brandie, Mitchell, Amber, Granger, Uraina, Kim, Brian, Carlos, Jessica, Christopher, Jordan, Billy, Ramon; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Irene loved playing Bingo and sitting in front of a Penny Slot Machine, but she was happiest when spending time with any member of her family. We could always turn to her when we needed a helping hand. She was someone we could count on to advise and understand. She was very dear to all of us, for no one could have been as wonderful as she was to all who knew her. Irene will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched. A visitation will be held Tuesday April 11, 2006 at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A Rosary is planned for 7:00 p.m. Friday April 21, 2006, and a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday April 22, 2006. Both Services will be held at Queen of Angels Chapel, 1100 Indian School NW, Albuquerque, NM (12th St and I-40) 505-881-1646.
