Obituary for JOHNSON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 26, 2006

DALE. Mr. Dale Johnson passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, March 19, 2006. A kind and thoughtful man, he was preceded in death by his son, Don Johnson and his beloved wife of 75 years, Mary Opal Johnson. Dale was born in Logan, KS on November 21, 1908 and then moved with his family to Colorado Springs, CO. It was there that he met his future wife in grade school, and after becoming sweethearts he married her in 1930. They subsequently moved to Albuquerque after Dale had acquired a position with Western Union where he worked loyally for over 50 years. Dale and M. Opal loved square dancing and participated in it for decades, where they made many friends. Mr. Johnson was a life long Mason, 32nd Degree, Lodge No. 6, and was Grand Master of the Lodge in 1944. He and M. Opal were longtime members of the New Mexico Utilities Shareholders Alliance and both had a keen interest in the stock market. Dale was a hard worker and an early riser, and had the selfless habit of placing the newspapers of his neighbors on their front steps while out on his daily early morning regimen. He was particularly good at, among many things, collecting and saving aluminum cans, which he gave to the Masons for their many charitable causes. Dale had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh and would frequently offer words of encouragement to those around him. He and M. Opal were the oldest members of the Spruce Park Neighborhood Association and will be missed greatly by his neighbors and friends. Dale and Mary Opal had long and meaningful lives and lived independently right up to the last days of their lives. Now the Johnsons are reunited in the hereafter, may they Rest in Peace. Memorial Services for Mr. Johnson will be on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., French Mortuary, 1111 University NE, in Albuquerque. Friends and neighbors are welcome to attend.
