Obituary for WILCOX

HERBERT. Longtime New Mexico resident Herbert Wilcox, a retired groceryman and business executive, died March 20, 2006 in San Antonio, TX. He was 101. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Helen Tixier Wilcox, in 1996. Survivors are his daughter, Helen Wilcox Shackelford of San Antonio; and four granddaughters, Diane Turner ( Jerry) of Blanco, TX, Stephanie Smith (Gavin) of Houston, TX, and Ann-Lynn Perkins and Lisa Shackelford, both of San Antonio. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Langston Turner (Meredith), Amanda Flanigan (Chris), Ashley Morgan, Courtney Turner, Bradley Morgan (Lauren), Stephanie Sierra (Mike), and Worth Turner. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Born April 22, 1904, in Philadelphia, TN, Wilcox began working in the grocery business in Clayton in 1923 and retired in 1972 as CEO of Shop Rite Foods which operated Piggly Wiggly stores in New Mexico and Texas. He also served as President and CEO of First National Bank of Albuquerque and had been a Director of San Antonio's First Federal Savings and Loan and Blanco National Bank. He and his wife operated the H&H Ranch near Blanco for many years. Private interment will be held at Blanco Cemetery. His family is grateful for the many kindnesses of his attentive caregivers at Kingsley Place at Oakwell Farms.
