Obituary for HAMNER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 17, 2006

Jay Hamner, 58, a native of Albuquerque, died Sunday, March 12, 2006. He was a graduate of the University of New Mexico and was an elementary teacher at many Albuquerque Schools. He retired from Gov. Bent in 2005. Jay shared his passion for teaching with his beloved wife of 33 years, Nan Corkran Hamner. Together they brought joy, kindness, humor and, above all, excellence in teaching to hundreds of Albuquerque children. Jay's family wishes to convey deep appreciation for the extraordinary outpouring of kindness and compassion shown during his valiant struggle against cancer. The many expressions of concern from dear friends, co-workers and students who knew and loved Jay during his magnificent 30-year teaching career in Albuquerque helped us realize that his spirit lives on in them. A private service has been held. Memorial contributions may be made to The Animal Humane Society of New Mexico, 615 Virginia SE, 87108, or to Presbyterian Hospice, 8300 Constitution NE, 87110 French Mortuary, Inc. 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE (505) 823-9400
