Nila Sanchez Chavez, age 86, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006, with her loving husband, Jess at her bedside. She was born on January 27, 1920. Nila was a teacher in La Joya, NM, Seboyeta, NM, and last taught at Central School in Belen, NM, until her retirement. She followed in the footsteps of her father, Alberto Sanchez, who also retired as a teacher. Nila was preceded in death by her parents, Alberto and Manuela Sanchez; her brother, Eloy Sanchez; niece, Patty Arnold and her husband, Garland. Nila is survived by her loving husband of 9 yrs., Jesus Chavez of Belen; her son, Henry Baca and his wife, Barbara of Dallas, TX; a brother, Reynold Sanchez of California; a sister-in-law Senaida Sanchez of Belen; niece, Judy Edwards and husband, Mike of Veguita, NM, and nephews, Jason of El Paso, TX, and Ryan Arnold, of Boylston Newton, MA. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 10, from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. followed by a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Saturday, March 11, from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. with the funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
