Obituary for MARTINEZ

Sophia Jaramillo Martinez, age 91, a lifelong resident of Tome, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2006. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, sewing, and crochet. Sophia married Salomon Martinez in 1946 and remained a Tome resident most of her life. She was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome. Sophia was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Aurora Jaramillo; her son, Carlos L. Martinez; and her granddaughter, Elsa Sophia Martinez. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Salomon Martinez; grandsons, Carlos Martinez Jr. and Alberto Martinez; her granddaughters, Maria Darst and Juanita Altobello; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Martinez; as well as six great-grandchildren, Felina Martinez, Sophia Martinez, Carlos Martinez III, Antonio Altobello, Alyssa Martinez, and Abby Altobello; and by her brother,s Toribio and Lonnie Jaramillo; and her sister, Okaris Jaramillo. We would like to give a special thanks to her loving caregivers from Lovelace Hospice Services staff, Paige Williams, Joanna Jojola, Alica, and Dr. Goldman, also Erica Vailladerros and Rosemay Martinez. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Peralta United Methodist Church. At Sophia's request, her earthly remains will be creamated and spread during a private ceremony with family at the family home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lovelace Hospice services.
