Obituary for CHAVEZ

Leonardo B. Chavez, age 74, was born on November 6, 1931 and passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006. Leo was a Penitente. He was a truck driver for the City of Albuquerque and retired after 33 years of service. Leo was also a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his parents, Estanislao Chavez and Sophia Trujillo; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Carlota Vigil; sons, Herman and Joe (Dodo); and daughters, Emma Lou Chavez and Maggie Sanchez. He is survived by his wife, Annie; daughter, Carla and husband, John Meier and granddaughter, Valeri Chavez. He is also survived by his sisters, Bennie Sanchez, Alma Mora and Lorraine Silva; brothers, Faustine, Roman and George Chavez; brother-in-law, Ben Vigil; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 also at St. Francis Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Diego Lucero, Marcos Chavez, Miguel Aragon, Anthony Chavez, Joe Ben Chavez and best friend, Eliseo Saavedra. Honorary pallbearers will be Vincent Chavez, Isaac Chavez and Johnny Ray Barela. Arrangements by Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.
