Lois French Stewart, 92, affectionately known as "Mema", a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, March 4, 2006. She is survived by five children; Jack T. Stewart of El Paso, TX, Chester French Stewart and wife, Diana of Albuquerque, Bob H. Stewart and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque, Linda S. Butler and husband, Pat of Colorado Springs, CO and Richard T. Stewart and wife, Brenda of Albuquerque; son-in-law, Jay Gillespie of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth and Chester T. French; husband, R. Jack Stewart; and daughter, Judy S. Gillespie. She was born in Albuquerque in 1913 and lived her early years in the family home on the second floor of French Mortuary at Fifth and Central. Lois was a member of First Baptist Church and was an active leader and teacher in Bible Study Fellowship for many years.
