Mary Ellen Wade Gaiser, 78, passed away peacefully at home Monday morning, February 27, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Christina and husband, David Wertz and their children, David, Katherine, Christopher, and Sara; her son, Thomas Martin, Jr., his wife, Cynthia, his son, Soren, and her children, Mark, Richard and Denise; her son, Timothy Ross and wife, Carla and children, Maria and Patrick from San Francisco, CA; her son, Terence Patrick and wife, Sue and children, Brian and Emily; and her daughter, Anastasia Tereasa; her daughter-in-law, Sandra and children, Heath and wife, Rachel and Audra and her daughter, Aubrey; her sister, Aileen Freasier of Ruston, LA; her sister, Myrlene and husband, Bob Free of Savannah, GA; and her brother, J.R. and wife, Mary Wade of Mercedes, TX and numerous family members and friends. She was born in La Villa, TX, on December 19, 1927, the fourth of six children to James Ross Wade and Ethel Inez Riley. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1944. She attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville for two years, and then graduated from Texas Tech University in 1948 at the age of 20 with a degree in Home Economics. After obtaining her teaching certificate, she taught elementary school for three years until she met and married Thomas Martin Gaiser in Mercedes, TX, in March 1951. After their marriage they lived in Wichita, KS before moving back to the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas in 1952. They then relocated to Albuquerque in October, 1962. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the fifty United States. She was a member of the Queen of Heaven Altar Rosary Society and Sewing Club. Her loves included travel, cooking, reading romance novels, and listening to George Strait. She leaves behind a legacy in her surviving children that includes a passionate sense of loyalty and family, a never-ending love of life and an extraordinary curiosity and desire to learn. She was always quick to laugh, eager to listen, and willing to help. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Thomas Martin, Sr.; son, Theodore George; her parents; and brothers, Howard and Elmo Wade. Rosary will be recited Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 4:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 3, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE. Private family Graveside Services will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery following the Mass. Pallbearers will be sons, Thomas, Timothy and Terence Gaiser, son-in-law, Dave Wertz and grandsons, Heath and David. Honorary pallbearers will include all of her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her loving family. The family especially wishes to thank Mary Lou Consla, whose love, advice, friendship, and assistance made this difficult journey bearable.
