Robert LeRoy Parkins, 86, of Winterset, IA, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Winterset Care Center North, Winterset, IA. A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, IA where the family will be present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery with military honors by V.F.W. Post 8142 and the American Legion Post 184. Memorials may be directed to the Friends of the Winterset Public Library or Middle River Hospice. Bob was born August 21, 1919 in Madison County, IA, the son of Ellis and Clarinda (Gibson) Parkins. His marriage to Helen Louise Martens took place on February 9, 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1993. Bob was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic. Bob worked in the Winterset Post Office and was Assistant Postmaster when he retired. As a young man he worked at Green's Grocery and after the war was a driver for the Anderson Erickson Dairy. He attended the First United Presbyterian Church of Winterset and was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He is survived by his daughter, Sandy Bowman (Phil) of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Kelly Galloway (Steve), Brother John Barker; one foster grandson, Tim Raulerson (Ann Marie); two great-grandchildren, Amanda Miley and Zach Galloway; one foster great-grandson, Quenton Arlon Raulerson; and two very special friends, Lenore Little and Pam Brown.
