Loren D. Blakely, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, January 5, 2006. He was born October 5, 1924 in Cumberland, OK. He had been a resident of New Mexico for 78 years; the last 3 1/2 years he resided at Valle Norte Caring Center. Mr. Blakely was preceded in death by his parents, James and Barbara Ethel Blakely; and two half-brothers, Gordon Brown and Paul Brown. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 1/2 years, Shirley; son, James Blakely; daughter, Lorelle Guentz and husband, Dudley of Edgewood; four grandchildren, Amber McLendon, Andrea Franzoy, Logan Blakely and Melissa Blakely; great-grandchild, Zao Franzoy; sister, Wanda McGlothlin of Los Lunas; and several nieces and nephews. After graduating from high school in Santa Fe, Loren served as a flight officer in the Army Air Corp. He was employed by Sandia National Laboratories for 35 1/2 years retiring in 1987. Mr. Blakely was a faithful member of Hope Evangelical Free Church for 46 years serving as an usher and several terms as an elder. Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 4710 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE, with Dr. Gary Hamburger officiating. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, Wednesday, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Evangelical Free Church Building Fund, 4710 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111 or to the charity of your choice.
