Obituary for BLAKELY

Loren D. Blakely, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, January 5, 2006. He was born October 5, 1924 in Cumberland, OK. He had been a resident of New Mexico for 78 years; the last 3 1/2 years he resided at Valle Norte Caring Center. Mr. Blakely was preceded in death by his parents, James and Barbara Ethel Blakely; and two half-brothers, Gordon Brown and Paul Brown. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 1/2 years, Shirley; son, James Blakely; daughter, Lorelle Guentz and husband, Dudley of Edgewood; four grandchildren, Amber McLendon, Andrea Franzoy, Logan Blakely and Melissa Blakely; great-grandchild, Zao Franzoy; sister, Wanda McGlothlin of Los Lunas; and several nieces and nephews. After graduating from high school in Santa Fe, Loren served as a flight officer in the Army Air Corp. He was employed by Sandia National Laboratories for 35 1/2 years retiring in 1987. Mr. Blakely was a faithful member of Hope Evangelical Free Church for 46 years serving as an usher and several terms as an elder. Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 4710 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE, with Dr. Gary Hamburger officiating. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
