Obituary for KATZENBERGER

Charles E. Katzenberger died at home on Thursday, December 22, 2005. Born May 11, 1919 in Lewisburg, OH, he was the youngest son of Karl A. and Kathryn Katzenberger. He grew up in Greenville, OH and joined the U.S. Army in April, 1942. After serving in the European Theatre in WWII as a First Lieutenant in the Sixth Ordnance MM Co. he remained in the Army Reserves, retiring in 1975 as a Lt. Col. In 1946 he moved Albuquerque and began working at Sandia Laboratories, retiring in 1981. Married for 59 years to Lucille Erickson, he is survived by their children, C. Edward Katzenberger, Jr. and wife, Micky Carino, Kathryn K. Morales and husband, Henry; daughter, Karen K. Katzenberger; and son, Karl Joseph Katzenberger; and by grandchildren, Karina, Brianna, Charles, Katie and Amari Morales, Kellam Carino, and Isaac Katzenberger. Active in the community, he was a member of the Genealogy Club of Albuquerque, a charter member of the Albuquerque Coin Club and the Morrow Users Computer Club. He was a lifelong Republican and was a poll worker during elections. Active in the Presbyterian Church, he was a member of the First Church for over 50 years where he was ordained as an elder and as a deacon. He served on the Mission Committee, worked in the archives and was active in the Sandia Conference Grounds and the Presbytery of Santa Fe. He enjoyed traveling, and after retirement made trips to Europe, pursuing his family history and taking part in commemorations of WWII. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to A Child's Garden Scholarship Fund, 215 Locust NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102, or to the Special Olympics, NM Chapter, 6600 Palomas NE, 87109.
