Obituary for JONES

Heywood Jones, Jr. "Woody", 83, joined God's Grace on Thursday, December 15, 2005. Upon retirement from Republic Steel Corp. of Cleveland, OH in sales management for 32 years, he and his beloved wife Ruth moved to Albuquerque in 1984. He was an Associate Broker for the Vaughan Co. Realtors from 1985-2000. During WW II, 1st Lt. Jones was a B-17 lead navigator in the 8th Air Force and flew 30 missions over Europe in 1944-1945. He received Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Once, his plane lost two engines over the target and he navigated safely to Belgium, then Allied territory. He received his BBA from Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, OH, in 1947. Woody was a member of the Sandia Presbyterian Church, 8th Air Force Historical Society, New Mexico Senior Golf, Duke City Duplicate Bridge, and the Friendship Force of New Mexico. He was a volunteer for the Albuquerque Visitors and Convention Bureau. Woody was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruth in 1992, and is survived by two sons and two daughters: Dr. Wesley H. Jones and wife, Mary Jane of Greenwood, IN, Louise L. Fischer and husband, Andrew of Arlington, MA, Craig K. Jones and wife, Jennie of Albuquerque, NM, and Cathy L. Dabney and husband, Greg of Austin, TX. There are nine grandchildren: Ellen and Martin Jones, Cory and Sarah Fischer, Tyler Jones and Kari Williams, Jessica, William, and Robert Dabney; and one great-grandchild, Ethan Williams. Woody is also survived by his dear friend, Helen Lyles of Lincoln, NE. A Memorial Service will be held at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday, January 7, 2005 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Suite 300, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
