Grace L. Cook Norris, 98, died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at the Salerno Bay Manor in Stuart, FL. Grace was formerly of Meriden, KS and spent most of her life in Albuquerque, NM. Grace was born November 11, 1907 in Paxico, KS, the daughter of Lewis Earl Shaffer and Mattie M. (Fessler) Shaffer. Grace was a 1924 graduate of Meriden Rural High School and attended Washburn University, Topeka, KS. Grace married Ray Cook on July 28, 1931 in Topeka, KS; he preceded her in death on October 30, 1958. She married Bob Norris on June 9, 1973 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death in February 1992. Grace was a Publications officer for the United States Government, retiring in 1965. She was a Charter Member and Past President of Women's Progress Club in Albuquerque, NM. She was a Methodist. Grace is survived by her son, Lewis "Bud" Cook; Topeka, KS; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Barnett-Chapel Oaks Meriden Chapel in Oskaloosa, KS. She will lie in state from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the chapel.
