Obituary for MARTINEZ

Thomas of Cedar Crest, New Mexico, passed away on December 30, 2005 from complications of Parkinson's disease. Tom was born on September 22, 1923 in Cimarron, New Mexico. He was the son of Solomon and Carolina Maxwell Martinez. Tom enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was stationed in Columbia, South Carolina where he met Jerry Jones. Tom and Jerry were married on September 15, 1945. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary surrounded by their loving family. Tom graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and was responsible for designing many of the bridges, roads, and hatcheries around the country. After retiring from the fish and wildlife, he started Tom Martinez and Sons-Surveying. He also built Tom and Jerry Plaza in Cedar Crest in the early 70's. Tom is survived by his loving family, his wife, Jerry; his sons, David and his wife, Debbie and their children, Brandon and his wife, Valerie, and daughter, Halo, Marc, Michelle, and Kimberly; Jimmy and his wife, Jessie and their children, Tommy and Dru Bailey; Gary and his wife, Mary and their children, Jeff and Ashley; John and his wife, Carol and their children, John Thomas and Jodi; Bobby and his daughter, Marisa Carolina and her mother, Terri. Tom's daughters are Diane and her husband, Kent Hansen and their son, Matt and his wife, Miranda and daughter Terriana; Brenda Martinez; Beatrice Cunningham and her children, Lora, Alyssa and her son, Marlon, and Gregory and his wife Veronica, and their daughters, Candice, Jackie, Lena, and Veronica; and special friend, Vangie Varney. Tom Martinez will be remembered for his tremendous love for his family and for being a very hard-working individual who always did each job to the best of his ability. He will be missed by family and friends alike. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Aspen Funeral Services, 1935 Juan Tabo NE on Friday, January 6th at 11 am.
