Obituary for OFFTERMATT

Wilbur F. Offtermatt, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, December 23, 2005. He was born September 28, 1924, in Cleveland, OH. He is survived by his wife, Georgia M. Offtermatt, of Albuquerque; sons, Michael D. Offtermat, and wife, Diane of Hastings, MN, and Jeffrey W. Offtermatt and wife, Shirley, of New Braunfels, TX; 14 wonderful grandchildren; brother-in-law, Skip, and sister, Florence Doughty of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews in Albuquerque, California, Florida, and Ohio. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward G. Offtermatt; parents, Catherine, and Ernest Offtermatt; sister, Eileen Bowker; and brothers, Ernest, Robert and James Offtermatt. CDR Offtermatt entered the U.S. Navy flight training program in 1943, received his wings and was commissioned in 1945, and remained in the Navy for a total of 21 years during which time he flew attack aircraft from Naval Aircraft Carriers. Also, during his Navy career, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the US Naval Air Systems Command and the US Postal Service in Washington, D.C. He and his wife, Georgia, moved to Albuquerque in 1981, joining the Church of the Risen Savior, where both have been active in many ministries. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., and will be followed by a Rosary Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at 7:00 p.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Risen Savior, Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., with Father Richard Olona officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
