Obituary for ROGERS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday December 11, 2005

Mattie "Mecca" Rogers, 85, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side Sunday, December 4, 2005. She grew up in rural Runge, TX with an extended circle of family. In 1952 she came to NM with her husband, Frank who preceded her in death by 14 years. The one home they shared was part of a close neighborhood community that meant a lot to both of them. Her children, Barbara and Brian; grandchildren, Heather and Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Taylor; sister-in-law, Dorothy; half-sisters, Nina and Susan; niece, Julia; other family and friends will never forget her unique way of being in the world. Mecca will be remembered for her sense of humor and hospitality, her fondness for flowers, birds, chocolate, polkas, the color red, and anything Texas. Memorial will be in her home Sunday, December 11, 2005 from 3-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, take yourself out to the BBQ place of your choice and eat some brisket and corn bread in honor of Mecca's love of these foods.
