Obituary for O'CONNELL

Kathleen Elizabeth O'Connell, 56, died December 8, 2005 at her home in Albuquerque from cancer. She was born July 7, 1949 to Earl Joseph and Mary Elizabeth O'Connell and raised in Fairway, KS. Kathleen graduated from Bishop Miege High School in 1967 and Emporia State University in 1973. She moved to Texas in 1980 where she was employed as a substance abuse case manager and later as a teacher. She moved to Albuquerque two years ago. At the time of her death, she was a teacher with Albuquerque Public Schools and was attending the Graduate Department of Education at the College of Santa Fe, Albuquerque. Survivors include her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Leonard Kladuson, Mission, KS, Barbara and Larry Crawford, Glen Rose, TX; six nieces; one nephew; four great-nieces; one great-nephew. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents. Kathleen was a gentle and free spirit who faced many challenges in life with courage and determination. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, spirit of adventure, and particularly the grace and dignity she displayed throughout her illness. Visitation will be Monday, December 12, 2005 at 6:00 p.m., with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave SE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 13, 2005, 9:00 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier, 820 Broadway SE, with internment following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Francis Xavier, 820 Broadway SE, 87102.
