Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday December 04, 2005

Diana Kinley Goebel, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1976, died on November 30, 2005 in her home following a courageous battle with Leukemia. She was born in Los Angeles, CA on October 10, 1933, to Daniel and Winifred Wilkinson Kinley. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Los Angeles and attended Mount St. Mary's College in Brentwood, CA. On October 3, 1953 she married Martin (Marty) Goebel in Los Angeles, CA. Diana is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years; son, Dan and wife, Deborah Goebel of Peoria, AZ; daughter, Sue and husband, Jon Heck of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Jason and wife, Luticia Goebel of Peoria, Heather Goebel of Peoria, Jennifer Heck and Caitlin Heck of Glendale; great-grandchildren, Tres, Tahlia, and Tarynn Harrison of Peoria. Diana was preceded in death by her parents as well as her and Martin's daughter, Patricia. Diana was an active member of the Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church for 29 years and served as a member of the Parish Council in charge of the first Family Album; Extraordinary Minister of Communion; Lector; and Choir member. A tireless volunteer for many years, she enjoyed Scouts, hiking, travel, reading and writing poetry. Four trips down the Grand Canyon trails were highlights of her scouting days and trips to Rome, the Holy Land, Egypt, and Greece fed her love of archeology and history. Perhaps the most important and happy use of her time in later years was her travel with her husband in their RV and through that, involvement with the NM Good Sam Organization when she served as State Secretary and Historian. She was also active in the Zia Roamers and Computer Sams Chapters. Diana loved to laugh and did a lot of it. The sound of her laughter and her warm hugs will be missed by all. Rosary will be recited at French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd NE at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday December 6, 2005 with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday December 7, 2005 at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE. She will be buried in the family plot in West Point, NE in a private ceremony later.
