Obituary for RISTER

S. Fred Rister, age 81, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2005, following an extended illness with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Fred was born in and a 78 year resident of El Paso, TX. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeannie Rister; his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Diann, Terry and Lisa, and Richard and Carla; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; his brother, Eugene P. Rister of El Paso; his sister, Lucille Williams of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Marie and Samuel Pope Rister and sister, Frances Freeman. Fred graduated from Ysleta High School in 1941 and Texas College of Mines & Metallurgy (now UTEP) in 1945. He was the second veteran to enter his college on the G.I. Bill. He was President of the Independent Men, was a member of the College Players and served on the Student Body Council. Fred was an Insurance Claims Adjuster for over 44 years in El Paso, TX. He was the first President of the reorganized Claimsmen's Association and a past-president of the El Paso Optimist Club. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 3, 2005, 3:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM.
