Obituary for CLARKE

Dora L. Clarke, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at a local hospital. She was born July 4, 1915 in Albuquerque to Cresenciano and Maria (Candelaria) Lucero. She married Reed S. Clarke on June 7, 1944 in Albuquerque. Mrs. Clarke attended Albuquerque Public Schools and was a graduate from Albuquerque High School in 1933. She was fluent in English and Spanish. Mrs. Clarke attended the University of New Mexico for two years and began teaching with a two year college certificate. Her first APS assignment was in year 1935-36. She continued university work during summers and night school, receiving B.S. degree in 1943 and M.A. in 1957. Her experience has been 47 1/2 years in the full range of educational positions. She was an APS classroom teacher, elementary and secondary including the teaching of Spanish in both elementary and secondary school. Mrs. Clarke was a primary curriculum consultant with APS for 16 years and for the Overseas Teach Corps in Caracas, Venezuela taught summer session 1964 a math workshop for supervisors. She worked on a UNM project in Quito, Equador, language arts workshop for administrators and supervisors and summer math workshops for College of St. Joseph and University of New Mexico extension department during the summers of 1962 and 1963. Mrs. Clarke was Director of Head Start Summer Session, 1970. She assisted Dr. Ethna Reid, Reading Workshop, Valley High School, summer 1973 at La Verne College in Downey, CA. Mrs. Clarke served on the School Board for St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church during 1971. For thirteen years administration as elementary school principal at Five Points, Alameda, Whittier, Mission Elementary, Armijo and Bandelier. During 1971 and 1972, she completed an additional 30 hours at UNM, U of A, and La Verne College, CA in reading, team learning, adult education, curriculum, bilingual education, kindergarten methods and guidance. At present Mrs. Clarke's degree is M.A. +30 additional hours. In 1983 she retired from Bandelier Elementary school after a total of 47 1/2 years in APS. She is survived by her husband, Reed Clarke of Albuquerque; daughter, Idelle Clarke of Pasadena, CA; son, Blaine Reed Clarke; grandsons, Cameron R. Clarke and Michael R. Clarke; granddaughters, Lyndy Kay Clarke, all of Albuquerque and Heather M. Cowles of California; sister, Tonie Angel; and brother, Fred Lucero. Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 11:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE. Entombment will take place Monday, 11:30 a.m., at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Desi Baca, Roland Quintana, Jamie Barraras, Cameron Clarke, Michael Clarke and Bob Barela.
