Obituary for LOPEZ

Richard A. Lopez, 37, was born March 6, 1968 and died November 13, 2005. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army until 1993. Richard was a veteran of Desert Storm and served in the war as a medic. He earned the Bronze Star and numerous other medals including the Combat Infantry Badge, the Medic Badge, Airborne Badge and the Soldier's Coin for being selected as the top medic in combat field operations in Germany. Richard also earned several Army Achievement Medals. Sgt. Lopez was awarded the Army Commendation Medal by the Army National Guard for his assistance in the Cerro Grande Fire in Los Alamos. He is survived by his parents, Lupe Jr. and Esther Lopez; his sisters, Jody Patterson and her husband, Willie, Barbara Lopez and her husband, Phil Regenie, Mary Lopez; his brother, Clifford; his uncle and aunt, Max and Priscilla Gonzales; his Godmother, Stella Miller; five nephews; one niece; one great-nephew; two great-nieces; many cousins; his childhood and most trusted friend, Brian Archibeque; his good friend, Chris Maes; and his dog, Ziggy, who was like a son to him. A Memorial Rosary will be recited Wednesday, November 16, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, November 17, 2005, 9:00 a.m., at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE.
