Obituary for DEXTER

Major Henry Vaughan Dexter, Jr. (Dex), 85, beloved husband of Mary E. Dexter of Albuquerque, died at Albuquerque Regional Medical Center on Friday, November 11, 2005. Son of Colonel Henry V. Dexter and Maude Ellis Dexter, Dex was born in Chattanooga, TN on June 21, 1920. He is survived by his first wife, Opal Otto of Huntsville, AL; and was preceded in death by their daughter, Diane Wrenn and his second wife, Grace Dexter. He is survived by his grandson, Cosmo Wrenn and wife, Lisa of Memphis, TN; great-grandson, Cameron Wrenn; brother, Colonel George Dexter and wife, Kathleen, eight nieces and nephews of Albuquerque, Dixon, and Penasco, NM, Anchorage, AK, and Los Angeles, CA; and daughter-in-law, Betty Reed James of Oregon. Henry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1939. He was commissioned through the Infantry Officers Candidate School in 1944 and was stationed in Japan and Trieste, Italy, during the occupation after World War II. Other overseas service included Korea and a second tour in Japan. He retired from the Army as a Major in 1961 after 22 years of service. After retirement, he went to work for the Atomic Energy Commission (later the Department of Energy) in Albuquerque, NM as a courier of nuclear materials retiring after 25 years of additional service to the United States Government. Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2005, 10:00 a.m., French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
